- Focus on Dimensions
Check the actual mm length and width dimensions (noted on the diamond certificate) of the Oval not just the carat weight. A well cut 0.9ct oval will have better dimensions, and look bigger, than many 1ct oval diamonds. Considering this helps to maximize visual impact and reduce the cost.
- Check the Length to Width Ratio
Not all Ovals are the same “shape”. Some are longer and thinner (they have a high LTW ratio) whilst others are shorter and fatter (they have a low LTW ratio). A nice length to width ratio is between 1.3 – 1.6. L/W=LTW Ratio
- Colour is Important
Ovals show colour more than round diamonds because of their large spread. For a single solitaire design aim for i colour or better. For a halo design aim for G colour or better.
